During the next five weeks, you will be working in literature circles, reading and discussing a book (of your choice from a list of books) with each other. This assignment will prepare you for working in this way in AP English next year, should you decide to take that course.
Literature circle roles
All roles have worksheets that need filling out each discussion day. Each role will also have to take notes on the discussion that is relevant to his or her part. Discussion leader
Prepares at least five interpretive questions before discussion. The leader should also ask follow-up questions during discussion and invite each member of the group to contribute what he or she has prepared (passages, vocabulary/language, and connections.) Passage master
Selects and reads aloud at least three key passages from the assigned reading, explaining why those passages were chosen and then raises questions about them. Wordsmith
Selects at least 10 important or interesting pieces of language and brings them up during discussion when related. Connector
Prepares at least four questions of evaluation -- two based on experience and two based on personal values.
